The masthead is the popular magazine 'NME' so it draws people's attention because it is so popular. The masthead is a bright red colour with a white and black outline to make the red stand out more on the page. Even though the masthead is partially covered by the main image it is still recognisabe to the regular readers.
The puff isn't as stricking as some other puffs from different magazine front covers as it is just a white circle with black and red text on it. Even though the puff itself isn't very eye-catching the text is bright and stands out on the white background to make sure it is seen by the reader. The puff is on the top right hand corner which makes it more likely to be seen because it has been placed by the masthead and main image.
The barcode is placed in the bottom right hand corner as that is the last place people look on the front cover of a magazine. You don't want people to be drawn to the barcode straight away because it is the least important thing on the magazine front cover.
The price is also next to the barcode as that is the last place people want to look. The price is also much smaller than the rest of the text on the front cover page because the price shouldnt be drawn attention to as the magazine company want people to buy it because it looks good and not be put off by the proce of the magazine.
The cover lines have been placed over the black clothing in the main image. As the text is written in white and red it makes the cover lines stand out to the reader and doesn't look as though it is covering the image because it is on a plain background. The colours of the cover lines don't clash as this colour scheme is carried through the front cover of the magazine.
