Mode of address

Mode of address is how a piece of media is presented or shown to the audience.
There are formal and informal modes of address, for example formal mode of address may be used in a classical music magazine or in a letter where it signs off as ,'Yours Faithfully' or 'Yours Sincerely'. Informal mode of address may use colloquial language to relate to the audience, or use expletive language whihc is more commonly known as swearing.

The mode of address in magazines can be influened by different factors of the magazine. This could include, the target audience for the magazine as if the magazine is aimed towards younger people, the magazine may be written in a colloquial tone to keep them more interested. However, if the magazine has more of an older person audience they may choose to write in more formal language as they would be able to understand and relate to it more.
The mode of address may also be affected by the genre of the magazine, for example, if the magazine was a rock or indie magazine, it wouldn't be written in formal text as it doesn't fit in with the theme of the magazine. Whereas a rock magazine may use expletive language and colloquialisms in order to fit in with the magazine.
The mode of address may also be influenced by the format of the magazine, meaning how the magazine looks to the audience. If the magazine has a formal and elegant look to it, the magazine isn't going to be written in an informal way as this wouldn't make the magazine flow very well.

Music Magazine analysis 2

The main image is an image of the band, 'Paramore' with the woman standing slighly in front of the men in the middle. This breaks up the band. They are all dressed in black to highlight the colour on the front cover. As the girl has brightly coloured hair it draws attention to the image and the magazine as a whole as the main colour on the front cove ris black which makes any other colour on the magazine stand out more.

The masthead is the popular magazine 'NME' so it draws people's attention because it is so popular. The masthead is a bright red colour with a white and black outline to make the red stand out more on the page. Even though the masthead is partially covered by the main image it is still recognisabe to the regular readers.

The puff isn't as stricking as some other puffs from different magazine front covers as it is just a white circle with black and red text on it. Even though the puff itself isn't very eye-catching the text is bright and stands out on the white background to make sure it is seen by the reader. The puff is on the top right hand corner which makes it more likely to be seen because it has been placed by the masthead and main image.

The barcode is placed in the bottom right hand corner as that is the last place people look on the front cover of a magazine. You don't want people to be drawn to the barcode straight away because it is the least important thing on the magazine front cover.
The price is also next to the barcode as that is the last place people want to look. The price is also much smaller than the rest of the text on the front cover page because the price shouldnt be drawn attention to as the magazine company want people to buy it because it looks good and not be put off by the proce of the magazine.

The cover lines have been placed over the black clothing in the main image. As the text is written in white and red it makes the cover lines stand out to the reader and doesn't look as though it is covering the image because it is on a plain background. The colours of the cover lines don't clash as this colour scheme is carried through the front cover of the magazine.
